Construction Products Regulation (CPR) & Declarations of Performance (DoP)
The CPR has standardized fire protection requirements in the EU since July 2013. Since July 1, 2017, permanently installed power, control, and communication cables in buildings have also been subject to the EN 50575 standard.
What is the Construction Products Regulation (CPR)?
The Construction Products Regulation (CPR) is binding in all EU member states. It ensures that only tested, safe products are used in construction and harmonizes the fire safety of construction products.
Since July 1, 2017, the regulations also apply to permanently installed power, control, and communication cables in buildings (standard EN 50575 ). This means that only cables with defined and tested fire properties may be installed – for greater safety.
What does this mean for cables and wires?
- CE marking (visible, permanent, clearly legible)
- A Declaration of Performance (DoP)
- Information on origin, product type and fire behavior class
The fire behavior class (e.g. Dca, Eca) describes how a cable behaves in the event of a fire and is central to the selection.
Obligations for manufacturers
Manufacturers may only sell compliant cables that:
- were assessed in a Europe-wide uniform testing procedure ,
- have an official declaration of performance and
- bear the CE marking .
The declaration of performance documents essential product properties , areas of application , manufacturer information , and, if applicable, testing by external bodies. Only then may a product bear the CE mark and be installed.
